Training

Training

Luke 10 training is a condensed and intense two weeks designed to help prepare you spiritually, physically, culturally and emotionally for your time overseas.

Topics include cross-cultural ministry, language acquisition, discipleship and interpersonal skills.

  • Cost: $500 plus cash for a few meals and city buses.
  • FREE online resources to help you prepare.

What Training is Really Like

THE SCHEDULE IS MORE LIKE THAT OF A BOOT CAMP THAN A RETREAT, SO DON'T COME WITH THE MINDSET OF HAVING A RELAXING VACATION.

Conditions: The living conditions will be close (just like on the mission field); a good time to learn "community". Many people experience a feeling of being overwhelmed during the training, so we ask you to prepare yourself spiritually, mentally and emotionally for an intense two weeks.

What to Keep in Mind: Part of the training is to replicate conditions on the mission field to include some of the stress, uncertainty, and anxiety you will experience there. This helps you know what to expect and to learn how you react to these conditions. Also, MUP is a broadly evangelical group, with people from many different backgrounds. Some find this aspect of our group experience to also be challenging.

The teaching will be done by a variety of people, most of whom have been missionaries themselves. As the training progresses you will have opportunity to meet them and interact with them. Although the schedule is very full, we have tried to build in time for you to talk informally with our staff and time to reflect and journal.

Training also includes a "home stay" with an ethnic family in the Seattle area to help you begin the transition to your new host culture before leaving the comforts of the US.

What to Bring: A heart ready to learn, be stretched, worship, pray and encourage. Come prepared and packed to depart for you assignment. That should include personal toiletries, towels, soap, shampoo, etc., appropriate clothing for your destination, bedding (sleeping bag or sheets) your Bible, and a personal notebook.

In case of an emergency, you can be contacted through the Seattle office (206) 781-3151.
